Awareness. Advocacy. Acceptance.
Gala Chairs: Sam Kane, Libby Mascaro, and Kathy Testoni
For over 25 years, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, known regionally as NAMI Southwestern PA, has helped individuals and families who are affected by mental illness. While we have made significant progress in the fight against stigma, we still face critical challenges. This year, 2016, NAMI Southwestern PA is planning its first ever gala dedicated to bringing awareness to those affected by mental illness. Playing on the signature color of mental health advocacy, the Green Light Gala will raise awareness that mental illness is common and treatable, and recovery is possible.
Held at the Heinz History Center, the Green Light Gala is a unique event that shines the green light of anti-stigma on mental illness with a fun atmosphere, great food, and music provided by Pittsburgh’s own the Move Makers Band. In addition, we will auction a painting donated by renowned Pittsburgh artist, Johno Prascak. Featuring inspiring testimony by two of the Gala Event Co-Chairs, Libby Mascaro and Sam Kane, attendees will be empowered with knowledge and awareness so they can take positive action to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and disorders.
Watch a segment from the Lynn Hayes Freeland show on KDKA-TV. By attending the NAMI Southwestern PA’s Green Light Gala you will help reduce stigma and increase awareness so that people with mental illness can live meaningful and fulfilling lives.
